If you’re a long time friend you may remember WinePals, a newsletter of sorts I sent out first by email, and then as an actual list on Yahoo Groups. WinePals was a way to share my adventures along the wine routes as I traveled the back roads of France trip after trip back in the 90s.  Clearly, it was the start of something, but back then, I never realized what it would become.  The start of a whole new adventure.
My love of wine led to an accidental winemaking effort. Thanks to Doug Margerum, and the team at the Margerum Wine Company, for the past six years I’ve been dabbling with making wine. While it’s not my full time career, it’s a way to have some fun. It seems, that fun is getting noticed as the story about my “accidental” winemaking adventures is now making the rounds.

My friend in France, Bernard Bardou, who also put me up for Knighthood with the Chevalier du Comanderie in France back in 2013, had this to say on Facebook yesterday about the famed 2009 blind tasting:
“This evening évent was prepared for a Syrah Blind Tasting night. With some professional friends: Wine growers, Wine waiters, cavistes, we had thé chance to have a sélection of 12 off the best French cuvées with Syrah. the AA cuvée was thé pirate…..,”  and the result was the 2009 Comunicano Wine Company bottle walked away finishing first.

Just like being involved in 42 exits to date is no accident, or blind luck, I don’t consider the winning wines Doug and I make together to be luck either. It’s the result of learning from the friendships made over 20 years or more with winemakers like my dear friend Sylvain Fadat and others that led to this….and as the song goes, “we’ve only just begun.”
And with that, on to today’s news in your COMUNICANO!
